witting.lea

"witting" is the present participle of "wit". "lea" is my name. together they make "witting.lea". the word wittingly defined is...

1. Aware or conscious of something.

2. Done intentionally or with premeditation; deliberate.

3. Information obtained and passed on; news.

may all the content found here live up to that definition...

this delightful girl...

December 6, 2009

i had forgotten this funny story about this girl of mine until she reminded me the other day when she was telling it to someone in our car. i love that she likes to share her embarrassing moments. she got that from her mama...

and if she is anything like her mama, she will always have PLENTY of funny stories to tell... and her own blog one day. and i will check it every minute of the day.

so, we went to the doctors office because she needed a shot. and she HATES SHOTS. LOATHES THEM. ABHORS THEM. DETESTS THEM. DISDAINS THEM. DERIDES THEM. DESPISES THEM. (wow. there are a lot of synonyms for “hate” that start with the letter ‘d’) i purposefully didn’t tell her about the shot until we were on our way to the doctors because she would have worried about it all day. so she just had her little stress fest over the shot in the car. where she said 543 times, “i don’t want to get a shot.” and 543 times i explained how things that hurt us can sometimes be for our benefit (i was all john piper-ish). i think that she will never be able to be a nurse because she couldn’t give anyone a shot. ever.

anyway, the two nurses are in the room preparing to give her the shot. and one of them asks her which had she writes with. she answers, “left”. then as they move over to her right side to give her the shot in her less used hand, she figures out why they asked her that. and she sees a light at the end of the tunnel and screams out really loud...

“ I’M ANOREXIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

the two nurses are stunned. they look at me and i roll my eyes and don’t seem concerned by this outburst at all since i know what she is thinking. i know this girl too well... and this girl is way too much like me...

i say nonchalantly, “she meant to say that she is ambidextrous. that way you wouldn’t be able to give her a shot in either arm.”

by now millie has recovered from her outburst enough to chime in sheepishly, “yeah, that is what i meant.”

the nurses give wary smiles, still not really convinced and proceed with the shot. it is 3 seconds of agony for millie and then it is over. and then i am sure those nurses went out and checked millie’s weight record.
