down with the ship...

were you aware that there was a musical in the late 90’s about the ill fated titanic journey? not sure if you are aware but a lot of people died in that story (kind of carrie-ish.) it wasn’t as big of a flop as carrie. but it’s no les mis.

i saw it in a traveling tour production (b.t.w. you can watch the ENTIRE musical on line on youtube. here is part 1.crazy. but i do so love youtube.) it wasn’t life changing. i can’t recall a single song knocking me out. but it is a GREAT segue to blog about what i want to blog about today...

ill fated sea journeys...

one of which i will be participating in this summer. well, hopefully not the ill-fated part. though with the cast of characters appearing on board this trip may be musical worthy...

my home team and i AND OUR FAMILIES are all going on a cruise together. yes, ALL GOING ON A CRUISE TOGETHER. deaver’s husband works for michael w. smith. yes, the christian singer. and michael w. smith goes a cruise every summer. and so do a bunch of his friends. they take over a whole ship. deaver and her family have been every year that they have done the cruise. it is part of her hubby’s job. sweet job. so they are there. with their kids. and my friend/college roomie, dina, well her hubby works for franklin graham. yes, billy and ruth bell’s son. head of samaritan’s purse. (don’t i know the coolest people?) they have gone a few times on the cruise. this year they wanted someone to plan, organize and implement some activities for the youth on the cruise. some game nights. scavenger hunts. that kind of thing. which is kind of MY kind of thing. i talked over some plans for activities with some people in charge of the cruise and they decided i didn’t sound too crazy (or that i sounded just crazy enough to want to hang out with teenagers our on open water) and they “hired” me to do the youth activities. and by “hired” i mean made us an offer on some heavily discounted rooms so that my whole family could go on the cruise with a minimum of cost. the cruise is a canada/new england cruise and we are so excited about all the places we are going to see along the way! and the friends who are going. and the musical artists. and frank perettiwill be leading my morning devotions! really people, it doesn’t get any better than that? oh yes, it does...

so then my friend and former neighbor from atlanta, karen, whose husband is a CHRISTIAN SEX THERAPIST (you can’t make this stuff up people) was jealous that we three families were going out to sea without her. and so they “got on board”. with much apologizing to their dave ramsey plan, they signed up and paid the bill... they are livin’ like no one else. this will be their first cruise EVER.

so we are going on a cruise this summer. with my three best friends and their families. the fact that the dates worked for ALL four of our families is amazing/miraculous/beyond all human capability. this is 4 families who will have just seen two kids graduate from high school. two upcoming seniors in high school. 2 rising sophomores. 2 rising freshman. and rosie, the lone middle school student. all teenage kids with very busy summer schedules. all husbands with very busy schedules. and the week worked for ALL FOUR FAMILIES. we have NEVER all traveled together. they have all come to the beach house with their kids but never all of us at the same time.  we have been various and sundry places with each of their families at times. but i don’t think all four husbands have ever been all together. for an entire week. a whole week. on a boat.

this could end up a lot like the titanic.

especially with me running the teen activities. start your praying engines now.

hmmmm, wonder who the teen activities coordinator was on the titanic? seems that she should have kept rose and jack a little more occupied in scavenger hunts with GROUPS instead of their own little private “scavenges”... if you get my meaning... i will take note of that.

it is very exciting news. and it is something ONLY God could have worked out schedules, financially, and in a million

other small details. it is a good gift. and we thank Him for being sooooo good. sometimes in ways that at the time don’t “feel” so good. and sometimes in ways like this... that are far
beyond what we could have ever asked or imagined...
