maxx, the luca boys, and christian wong. they have been in school together all their life (the luca boys and maxx were at preschool together). they enter high school together in the fall. they all met this morning at their old elementary school to play kickball for a cause. the 5th graders play kickball and raise money for the luca endowment in honor of wil and jarrod’s wonderful mother, brenda luca, who lost her courageous battle with triple negative breast cancer 4 years ago. i blogged about that day and i still can remember the phone call while i was in the middle of publix. i sank to the floor and cried in the paper towel aisle. i remember picking maxx up from the field trip and knowing that there was a mother who wasn’t picking up her boys. i have watched those boys race cross country. watched them sing in chorus. watched them in plays. and i am always watching for two moms. for me and for their mom.
these are boys who wear pink. boys who have cried together. who have attended a funeral together. they run together. they sing together. they play kickball together. and for the first time this summer... they will all go to ridgecrest summer camp for two weeks together. God is good.
and your song for the day comes from my sweet nell girl... she mentioned the song “wrecking ball” by jill phillips last week and i had never heard it but i found it on itunes and i LOVE the words.
Just when my tears were falling deep enough to drown
Down in the valley of the shadow of a doubt
When i gave up that's when he came to lift me out
And set me high.
When i saw it as a gift of matchless worth
I started thinking it was something i deserved
He pulled the rug from underneath without a word
And left me dry.
So piece together these little mysteries
It isn't hard to see the writing on the wall
Triumph and tragedy only God can be
Both the builder and the wrecking ball
He gave them freedom and a fertile promise land
They took for granted their deliverance at hand
Thirty-nine years later they're still walking through that sand
Wondering why why
So piece together these little mysteries
It isn't hard to see the writing on the wall
Triumph and tragedy only God can be
Both the builder and the wrecking ball
And he builds it up and he knocks it down
Just to build it up even stronger
So piece together these little mysteries
It isn't hard to see the writing on the wall
Triumph and tragedy only God can be
Both the builder and the wrecking ball
only God can be both the builder and the wrecking ball. that is what He is. and He is doing some wrecking in my life right now. a child leaving elementary school. and child leaving middle school. and a 17 year old daughter going into senior high. nothing but wreckage around these parts. but i know He is knocking things around to build something more stable. something more beautiful. something eternal. something of His design because i don’t have the plans to this Masterpiece.
only God can be both the builder and the wrecking ball. boy does it hurt when that wrecking ball knocks over what i have built up. but day by day i see pieces of the mysteries and i see the writing on the wall. and the writing says that this is for my good. this is for His glory.
