i am not a real “party girl”. i know that shocks some of you. we don’t go to a lot of parties (well, we aren’t invited to a lot of them). we tend to have big dinners at our house. big birthday parties when the kids were young. but for some reason we don’t do a lot of EVENTS. don’t like to go places where i have to wear real clothes. mainly because i don’t own any real clothes.
so the pichard-a-thon is about as party-tastic as we get over here. and it is pretty party-tastic... really most other parties would have a hard time living up to this shin-dig of epic proportions...
it all started because we wanted all of the kiddo cousins to know each other. there are so many of them and so what better way to help the kids identify who we are and who we are related to than a little “friendly competition...
we are on “team clarence”. my grandfather was clarence pichard. his brother marion sired “team marion/ team g-daddy” and his other brother david begat “team david”. and what better way to honor our grandfathers’ memory than to battle for their honor in an all out WAR of epic proportions at the holiday season????
because nothing brings honor and dignity of those great men more than the taunting and outright humiliation of the other teams in the games that are selected every year. each team selects a game and brings the equipment needed and explains the game to all the teams who will be competing. we try to “play to our strengths” in the game selections.
we have never duplicated a game. or shown up with two teams having the same game prepared... yet.
the 2010 battle begins with our game selection of the year... create a toe-net art masterpiece using only your feet.... and our work-de-arte “poinsettia in the wind” won because of the fabulous description of being a modern piece that speaks to the chaos we all feel at this time of year...
then round two.... Christmas TREE-via. we had some problems with our bell ringing not being loud enough. we KNEW all the answers. of course, we did. team marion took this round....
and then came round three. a very difficult final round that involved eating doughnuts off of a fishing pole using no hands and then completing an arrange the letters contest using only a straw and your sucking abilities. and can i say that my brother and sister really “sucked” at this... in a good way. but not good enough. team marion rousted us again. bah humbug.
and the pink tree of victory goes to...... team marion. for the second year in a row. huge sigh of defeat.
team david and team clarence are bringing down team marion next year... no matter what we have to do.
be afraid team marion... be very afraid.
