"It isn't enough to love; we must prove it."
{st. therese of lisieux}
that was my quote of the day. which was interesting because i had just read about st. therese of lisieux in my book club selection for last month, the happiness project by gretchen rubin.
so yesterday i decided to prove love to some people...
but i guess i was only copying someone who already proved His love for me...
romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
and that word “demonstrates” in the greek means “proves” as well
1) to place together, to set in the same place,to bring or band together
1a) to stand with (or near)
2) to set one with another
2a) by way of presenting or introducing him
3) to put together by way of composition or combination, to teach by combining and comparing
3a) to show, prove, establish, exhibit
4) to put together, unite parts into one whole
4a) to be composed of, consist
i love expanding my knowledge of that verse into the idea that God places His own love next to our sinfulness. that is the way He presents or introduces Himself to us, through loving us despite who we are. and that puts us together with Him into one whole.
love is proved. not just spoken. not just felt. love is in the proof.
We love because He first loved us.
1 john 4:19
