have been reading and rereading the story of jehoshaphat and his impossible battle from 2 chronicles 20. highlighting verses. reading portions of it out loud. i haven’t made a laminated copy of that chapter yet... but i sense that i might do that in the future.
that story is becoming very precious to me as i strive to have the same attitude as jehoshaphat (total reliance on God knowing that there is NO way we could ever defeat the multitude of enemies that we face) and the same AWESOME results (God doing His God thing and setting ambushes Himself and winning the victory completely).
and then i found this amazing sermon on 2 chronicles 20 by my friend (and yours, but mostly MY friend), john piper. johnny as i like to call him since i do follow him on twitter. and sometimes i even call him piper-ific. but never to his face.
the sermon is about how the front line of jehoshaphat’s army was the choir. the singers were the FIRST line of defense. how spiritual warfare involves singing. true singing as an act of war. i love the thought of that. i also love the thought of jehosaphat telling the choir to move to the front. and i would have liked to have seen the looks on their faces when they realized THEY were the front line. hee hee hee.
i have often thought that my singing was warfare. to anyone who overheard it. and not the victorious kind of warfare. like the kind that starts battles. because people get angry. but johnny explains who really gets peeved when we sing, praise, and worship God with our singing...
I promise you it will bring a new power to your fight of faith. Satan cannot bear the singing of the saints. You can drive him away with song. And don't fall for his lie that you can't sing. Everybody can sing. Not everybody can perform. Not everybody can lead. Not everybody can read music or even stay on the right keys. But everybody can sing to God.... God loves to hear your song, no matter how badly you sing. And woe to your enemies when you sing to your Father in heaven!
so WOE to my enemies because i am going to be doing some singing today. and tomorrow. and every day that i have here on earth. until i join the heavenly chorus where i will sing perfectly to the Perfect One.
and until that day, this is a great song to sing... you are for me by kari jobe.
So faithful, so constant and so true
So powerful in all You do
You fill me, You see me
You know my every move
You love for me to sing to You
I know that You are for me, I know that You are for me
I know that You will never forsake me in my weakness
And I know that You have come now even if
to write upon my heart
To remind me who You are
So patient, so gracious, so merciful and true
So wonderful in all You do
You fill me, You see me
You know my every move
You love for me to sing to You
I know that You are for me, I know that You are for me
I know that You will never forsake me in my weakness
And I know that You have come now
even if to write upon my heart
To remind me who You are
